City of Venice Downtown Corridor Improvements
Project Overview
Location: Venice, FL
Client: City of Venice
Completion Date: 2019
Overview
This project involved extensive improvements to three of the major roadways within Venice, FL’s downtown business district. After the underground utilities were replaced, QE installed new storm piping and structures, approximately 2 miles of road base, asphalt paving, brick pavers, curbs & sidewalks, street lighting, along with landscaping & irrigation in the medians.
Our Biggest Challenges
Public Outreach and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) were key elements, as the project was constructed during Venice’s high tourist season. There are many businesses in downtown Venice, and QE needed to maintain public access for those impacted by construction. With this in mind, QE worked on one side of each street at a time, which also helped to keep the area safe for pedestrians.
The work also presented environmental and groundwater challenges. QE’s crews transported materials over a drawbridge and maintained a timely work schedule despite groundwater and tide fluctuations. This was possible because QE has the equipment and capabilities to complete work in all environmental conditions.
