Quality Enterprises Pioneers Cat® Command Technology

For Thomas, it was just another workday. Under normal operations, Thomas switches between remotely operating the Cat® 938 loaders at both our Punta Gorda and Shearwater concrete plants throughout the day, eliminating the need for separate operators at each location. What made this workday remarkable was that he performed the same seamless operation from more than 2,000 miles away at CONEXPO 2026 in Las Vegas.

What once seemed impossible is now part of daily operations at Quality Enterprises (QE). As one of the earliest contractors to successfully implement Cat Command in active production environments, QE continues to lead the industry through technology that improves safety, increases efficiency, and delivers better results for clients.

The journey began in 2023 when QE visited Caterpillar’s proving grounds in Tinaja Hills, Arizona, where CAT demonstrated the technology was possible. QE then took that concept a step further. While CAT proved it could work in a controlled environment, QE proved it could work in the real world, on active production sites where uptime, safety, and performance matter every day.

After planning and infrastructure installation throughout 2024, QE successfully launched its first remotely operated 938 loader at their Naples concrete plant in January 2025, followed by a second unit in Punta Gorda later that summer. Today, one remote operator can support both concrete plants, increasing workforce flexibility while reducing risks associated with repeated equipment entry and exit.

At CONEXPO 2026, this distinction became even clearer. CAT demonstrated what was possible from its proving grounds, while QE demonstrated what was practical from an active production site. As Lissette Cardona, Construction Technology Administrator, explains “I get a lot of questions about how the system works, and I take the time to explain the halo lights, manual mode, and what Thomas can see and hear. Once people understand the system, it gives them confidence while still encouraging the right level of caution.”
