Center for Hope Hospice —Sitework, Roadways & Utilities

Grading and Excavation

Project Overview

Location: Fort Myers, FL

Client: Hope Hospice & Community Services

Completion Date: 2019

Overview

QE was hired to complete a private development project for Hope Hospice under the inspection of Lee County and FDOT. This 52-acre site located in Fort Myers, FL included the installation of over 4,000 LF of utilities and roadway. QE began by clearing all of the trees from the property and digging lakes for stormwater runoff. Then, QE installed the utilities and storm drainage, lift station, built the roads, and completed landscaping work before the parcels were sold off for development.

Project Challenges and Mitigations

Prior to construction, soil boring reports showed no sign of rock where the lakes were proposed to be dug. However, as soon as excavation began, QE quickly realized that the ground was basically all heavy rock. While it’s common to come across some unexpected rock material on a job site, it’s very rare to see this large of a quantity of rock in this area.

QE’s highly skilled and experienced crews overcame this challenge, spending countless hours grading the roads and putting down base rock prior to asphalt installation. QE’s Recycled Aggregates division was able to crush the removed rock and recycled it as base rock on site. QE’s 50+ years of experience allowed the team to complete the work at Hope Hospice as planned, despite complications along the way.
